At least one civic group was confused when the smash for cash group called. Of Renewing Montgomery, the East Bethesda Citizens Association said in their May newsletter:
Renewing Montgomery is a community outreach initiative created by the Montgomery County Department of Public Works to open a dialogue between property owners, builders and residents on the challenges of improving homes, or building new homes, in established neighborhoods like East Bethesda.
The error is understandable. Afterall, the county does run a program called “Renew Montgomery” that re-builds sidewalks and curbs in older neighborhoods.
This name confusion must obviously be an oversight considering Big Development's long distinguished record of being completely honest and up font with the public...

Somewhere along the way. Montgomery County lost its way.
At one time, one could go to Wheaton Plaza and feel safe and not worry about being acosted in the parking lot.
The Metro bus would let passengers off inside the mall at a number of different locations in case one had a lot of packages to carry.
A person could wait for a bus and not be stabbd , a person could walk in the park(Sligo Creek was my choice) and feel safe, there was no trash to clean up. As a kid I use to catch minnows and tadpoles, box turtles were many, and occasionly one would come across salamanders or a crayfish.
Hell, I remember drinking from the creek, and never getting sick.
I would not even want to put my bare feet in the water today.
If Montgomery County is to be "renewed". let the government and citizen groups start with safety issues and improving the parks. There are too many people living in the County, let us not build more roads and homes to add to our problems, let's go back to a slower time and pace when people mattered not big busines.
